Hi there, I just got a new iMac 21.5 and a newbie to OSX. I really agree with you that Explorer is faaar superior to Finder in soo many ways. I felt stupid for using Finder on Snow Leopard. I tried PathFinder but it just improves the suckiness that is Finder. In Snow Leopard it's just another program and can't fully replace the Finder itself

My main gripes are these 3..

1. Arranging the files by Date Modified does not always work. I have to set it everytime when viewing a folder. On Explorer it remembers my settings on each and every folder.

2. Only 4 view modes. Cover Flow view is useless and is just for novelties sake

3. No folder previews. Re-alinging the window does not adjust the icons inside to move up and auto rearrange. Make the window bigger and the icons are still in their place.

Before anyone says "Why did you buy a mac in the first place" Well..I didn't. My company gave it to me. If only I can hook up to an AFP apple server on Windows I'll switch in heartbeat! Heck even Windows 7 bootcamp still has issues on the Mac!

@Martijn - That sort of comment is exactly the reason why I wrote this post. It's been a year since I did a fresh install of Leopard and it feels like it needs to be reinstalled again. I would have done a while ago but I am waiting for Snow Leopard.

@am - Thanks for the tips. The up one is handy.

some tips that can help

for the finder:
1 - shortcut to open spotlight (cmd+space) drag your file there and copy path
3 - for the "up" just do cmd+arrowUp

drag-and-drop more, you can take your files to places you never knew before :P

And I have my Windows reinstalled every 2 years and I don't have problems with it AT ALL. And I reinstall it because I love to do that. You get absolutely fresh clean OS and you can do whatever you want to do with it! And Windows 7 Ultimate is the best Windows by far! Believe me! Just try it - it's free for the whole year though it's still not a proper release. But it's fast, reliable, unbelieavably friendly and the interface is amazing!
And I was using Macs for 4 years 5 years ago. And they sucked for me. I switched back to Windows.

"I use a Mac now over a year and OS X is far more superior in everything you say it’s not." - you can't argue with logic like that!

Like you, I think Windows is more use-able for every day tasks like browsing files etc. The best thing about Apple are their excellent hardware and the range of Mac only software like Final Cut and Garage Band. And most importantly, iPhone development.

Why are you using a Mac? You want it to be Windows but it is not, it's a Mac. I use a Mac now over a year and OS X is far more superior in everything you say it's not.

I have used Windows for 10 years and every half year I had to reinstall it. With my Mac (which I abuse more) I have not have one moment thinking about reinstalling.
